The Art Museum of South Texas (AMST) stands as a landmark on the edge of Corpus Christi Bay. The building, originally designed by American architect Philip Johnson in 1972, was expanded in 2006 by Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. The two buildings come together as one incredible masterpiece proudly representing Mexican and American cultures.
AMST advances awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of visual art by presenting exciting exhibitions, offering dynamic education programs, and actively collecting and preserving a vital permanent collection that educates diverse communities. AMST actively collects, conserves, exhibits, researches, and interprets outstanding works of visual art with a particular interest in the art of the Americas and of the region.
The permanent collection includes more than 1,850 works of art. At its center is a robust collection of art on paper, along with paintings, photographs, sculptures, glass, ceramics, crafts, and large installation pieces. In 2001, AMST acquired a major portion of Dorothy Hood’s estate including her archives and studio contents.
