This is one of Hood’s more visually dense collages. Here she pulls together a scrap from her painting and juxtaposes it with found imagery that illustrates her inspirational sources. This is visible with her inclusion of a sculpture of a couple from the Dogon people of Mali, a section of painted foliage from The Snake Charmer, 1907 by French painter Henri Rousseau (1844 – 1910), and patterning provided from a photograph of a quilt and marbled paper.  Through this blending of art historical and cultural references, Hood offers insight into deciphering all of her works—not just the collages—as she provides the keys to some of her influences.
