Mexico provided the breeding ground for Surrealism to flourish with the arrival of writers and artists fleeing Europe during World War II in the late 1930s. With her move to Mexico in the early 1940s, Hood landed in the center of this creative moment and she blossomed as an artist. Her interest in mining the psyche aligned with Surrealist ideals of following letting the unconscious mind reveal itself through artistic expression. She embraced this way of working and her adopted Surrealist style continued into the 1950s as seen in Untitled. In this work, Hood utilized sweeping lines to portray a figure within another figure. This signifies both the face she projected to the world alongside the swirling emotions of her inner self.
