Although undated, this drawing features the precise, tight lines Hood employed before the mid-1970s. With its foreshortened perspective, the column of Hood’s Untitled (Sea Anemone) burst from its base disc with tentacles ready to capture its prey. Stripped of its natural color and setting and rendered stark black ink on a white sheet, Hood’s sea anemone becomes otherworldly, and symbolizes both the beauty and the dangers Hood perceived in the world.
